Daily life of a surveyor

A surveyor’s day usually starts by prep work the night before and getting everything ready for inspections the following day. The day starts by collecting any keys and carrying out inspections. This is a lone working job which comes with its risks, particularly using ladders in an empty house! It is important Surveyors have in place a scheme where the office regularly checks the surveyor is okay. During inspections, a surveyor will assess every part of the property they are physically able to including loft spaces and cellars. They will also follow the trail should any defects be found.

The job is not always glamorous! A day can vary massively, from attending Grade II listed historical buildings to run down repossession properties in very poor condition. From rural properties to town centre flats, all aspects of the UK housing stock can be inspected (not on the same day!) so a surveyor will see all kinds of things. Some properties have unique décor which can be an acquired taste, however a surveyor is not there to criticise!

Once inspections have been carried out, the surveyor returns to their base to complete all the reports from the day. Once completed, the prep work starts all over again!
